Behringer Q502USB

Setting it up with Ubuntu 20 and Jack

  • It was automatically recognized for me. In system Settings | Sound | Input | Input Device, if you select "Analog Input - PCM2902 Audio Codec" or "Digital Input (SPDIF) - PCM2902 Audio Codec", and play through the mixer, it'll move the VU meter in that view.
  • In QJackCtl, create a new setup. Select "hw:CODEC" or "hw:CODEC,0" as the interface.
  • At this point, I was able to record a guitar plugged into the mixer in Audacity.
  • Here is the basic thing that puzzled me so much I had to stop and eat lunch: The sound will now also come out of the mixer. It is the sound card, now that it's connected via USB and selected as the interface. I kept doing things to try to make the sound come out of the laptop speakers. After I plugged headphones into the mixer, I was able to hear sound from the computer again.
  • If you are using Guitarix, make sure you set "To main mix" under USB/2-TRACK to off to avoid horrble feedback. See also Audio latency.
